Description:

Utrecht, 1881 - 1964
60x50x52 cm
So-called occasional table 'Schröder 1', designed in 1923, manufactured by Cassina, Milan/Italy after 1981. Lacquered beech and plywood veneer in red, black, white, yellow and blue. Manufacturer's label on the underside of the stand, age indication.
The table was specially designed for the Schröder House in Utrecht, a project that is seen as the architectural embodiment of the ideals of the De Stijl group of artists and is now considered by many to be Rietveld's most important work. Like the model 635 chair, the table wrote design history and is now part of the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
